Classic Cakes

Another interesting place at the Clementi Arcade.
Address: 41 Sunset Way, #01-06 Singapore 597071
Tel: 98278005

Besides traditional 'English' cakes, they also have oriental carrot cakes, yam cakes and pumpkin cakes with green onions and chilli slides as garnish. The yam and pumpkin pieces are pretty big, its ingredients also included dried shrimps and preserved chinese sausages (lup cheong).
I also tried the mille crepe with chocolate chips, definitely something interesting. It comprises about 10 levels of crepes (like kueh lapis) with fresh cream and chocolate slices in between. I ate it slices by slices :)

I was eyeing at this cake for a while and finally decided that I shall get it the next time - I have had more than enough calories for the day.

They provide delivery service too. Delivery charge at $3 for cakes above $30 and FOC delivery for cakes above $50.
Operating Hour:
Tue & Sun: 2pm - 9pm
Wed-Sat: 11am - 9pm
(Closed on Mondays)

The Daily Scoop

After Bather's, I hopped over to The Daily Scoop Ice Cream Cafe, which was just a few steps away from Bather's.
Address : 41 Sunset Way, #01-04 Clementi Arcade, Singapore 597071
Tel: (+65) 6463 3365

After a few sampling on strawberry and chilli choc flavours, we decided on a double scoop in the choco-coated cone with butterscotch pecan and cookie monster flavour.

Love the butterscotch pecan but Kookie Monster was a lil disappointing as we could not taste the choco - maybe the butterscotch had overpowered my tastebuds.
Actually I would love to get the chilli choc flavour the next time. It is quite cool, there is a spicy after taste :)

Total damage : $5.50 for a double scoop with choco-coated cone.
Operating hours:
Mon-Thu 11am - 9pm
Fri & Sat 11am - 10pm
Sun 2pm - 9pm
Closed on selected public holidays

Bather's

Even though Singapore isn't a big place, I realised that there are many places which I haven been to... such as Clementi Arcade. It is located in a quiet and cosy private estate in Clementi, known as Sunset Way. A good place for a quiet dinner.... (note : the restaurant plays Christian music tho)
Address: 41 Sunset Way #01-02, Singapore 597071
Tel : 6463 1767

We shared an quesedilla, onion rings and a mushroom aglio olio. It came with complimentary 2 slices of thick garlic bread.
On the whole, the quesedilla and onion rings were quiet delicious, but a little too oily. The spaghetti was a little disapppointing as somehow, it could not reveal the fragrance. It was rather bland. Serving portion was quite big though.

Total damage was $12.90 (quesedilla) + $3.90 (onion rings) and $16.90 (spaghetti).
There is UOB discount for dining from Monday to Thursday.
There is lunch set menu at $12.90 and executive set lunch at $18.90. Looks rather worthwhile. Will definitely wanna try it out during lunch one of these days.

Spizza - Balmoral Plaza

Went to Spizza at Balmoral Plaza, which has both an indoor and outdoor dining section.
Spizza (Bukit Timah)
271 Bukit Timah Road,
#01-09, Balmoral Plaza
Singapore 259708
Tel : 6333 8148
Fax : 6235 0363
I had high expection of their pizza since they serve wood-fired pizzas, which are usually delicious. We ordered a Margherita pizza and a Aglio Olio with Shrimps.
On a closer look, they serve 26 types of pizzas, with names starting from A to Z.

The pizza was good but frankly, the Margherita from Modesto's is still the best!!! The spaghetti was also good but could have been better ... esp for the shrimp.
On the whole, it is a good place to go with friends for a decent meal without burning a big hole in your pockets.
Total damage : $17 (pizza) and $16 (pasta).

Banana Dessert Pizza

Like R said, you can't go wrong with chocolate and banana. Yeah... and Pastamania has creatively created a dessert using ingredient from a main course - Banana Dessert Pizza.
It is made of banana slices and probabaly banana paste, sprinkled with chocolate bits. It was delicious and not expensive - $3.50.

Maybe I should try making this at home one of these days.

Missy Donut

More donuts? This one is found at B2 of Plaza Singapura. Can be easily spotted from its Q. Price of donuts starts from $1.10 each. There are also set menu such as 2 donuts + a drink @ about 4 bucks.
They claim to make the softest donut in the inside and crispiest at the outside...
Missy Donut : #01-04 Bukit Panjang Plaza Tel : 6339 5677
#B2-33 Plaza Singapura Tel : 6339 5677
Pink and orange signage - doesn't this remind you of Dunkin' Donuts?

The donuts do look quite 'pretty' and tempting but I think the selection is a little limited. However, shop space constraint I guess - rental wouldn't be cheap at PS.

After trying the Mocha Ole, I can vouch that it is indeed very soft but can't agree much on the crispiness, perhaps the candies on the shell has taken too much attention from the crispiness.

Krispy Kreme

Recently, my colleague brought Krispy Kreme all the way back from HK. This donut shop has been in existence since 1937 in USA. Wow! Since then, it has expanded globally... but not in Singapore yet.
I noticed that there are quite a number of donuts shops sprouting out in various shopping malls in Singapore, such as The Central @ Clarke Quay, vivocity, raffles city basement and plaza singapura basement. They are getting quite an attention with people queueing for hours just to buy donuts. Are they nuts?
Ever since Dunkin' Donuts pulled out from Singapore, Singaporeans are deprived of donuts or have perhaps forgotten how donuts taste....
Anyway, here's my Krispy Kreme - Caramel filling with chocolate icing and toffee crunch.

Haato - Follow Your Heart [Ridgewood Close]

My colleague brought me to this place - Haato @ Ridgewood Close. It is a japanese gelato place with other outlets at Liang Court, Serangoon Gardens and Wheelock. At Ridgewood, japanese hot food such as curry rice and chicken katsu don are served. Since that was my first time there, I din know what flavour to pick - so I chose my fav rum & raisin. Not bad :)

(p/s: I went there again today - had Oyako don and a waffle with 2 big scoops of Black Sesame and Chocolate gelato. The waffle is indeed quite good, it has a unique fragrance, maybe it is the butter. It is still crispy when hot and not too hard - I like it. I like both ice cream flavours as well. Anyway, you can ask to sample ice cream flavours before ordering it.)

Taiwan Laozhaopai - 台湾老招牌 [Closed]

Taiwan Laozhaopai - 台湾老招牌 is another snack shop at The Central @ Clarke Quay #B1-54/55 (Tel : 65347173). Well, it is self-explanatory that they specialise in Taiwanese tidbits.

Apparently, this is their 2nd shop. The first is at Marina Square.
For the Central Outlet, they have a small cafe as well.
Love their 淡水鱼酥,it looks like those we buy from mama shops since young. But you've got to try this to know the difference. Somehow, those made locally are a little too hard, little too 'floury' and not so fishy.
Once you start, you can't stop. Heehee...
$4.20 for a pack (120g)

Cute and Delicious - Marcial Kobe Donuts [Closed]

Marcial Kobe located at The Central @ Clarke Quay basement 1. This is the level where you find snacks - from local, Japanese to Taiwan snacks.

This is the shop, found at a corner around the Taiwan snack shop - Taiwan Laozhaopai.

The donuts are really cute, measuring about 4 to 5 cm in diameter and comes it fancy flavours such as maple syrup, cinnamon, chocolate, chocolate peanut, peanut, candies etc. The donuts aren't too sweet and it simply tastes delicious, 'al dente' crispiness when still hot.

12 pieces at $4. Well if you think 12 pieces are a little too many, just imagine it only takes 12 pops to finish them off :P

黄埔(庆)街边美食鱼头炉 Whampoa Food Street (Keng) Fish Head Steamboat Eating House

Went to 黄埔(庆)街边美食鱼头炉 (556 Balestier Rd Singapore 329872, Tel : 9769-4451 ), located at the junction of Ah Hood Road and Balestier Road. On the walls in the shop, there are many 8R photos of the boss 阿庆 (in golden hair) with mediacorp celebrities including Chen Hanwei, Lee Nanxing, Zhou Chongqing etc etc.

On my 1st visit there, I bumped into Zhou Chongqing actually. He looks ok and seemed to have recovered well from the recent accident he had.

The fish head steamboat is very similar to 天外天鱼头炉。The thing about such steamboat is that the steamboat continues to be cooking when you are eating it. The charcoal in the boat keeping the soup boiling. What makes 天外天鱼头炉 and 黄埔(庆)街边美食鱼头炉 one of the 鱼头炉四大天王 is that there isn't a fishy taste and the soup is very tasty. However, I am also doubting if they had used MSG to make the soup taste good.
Standard items in the steamboat - a choice of the type of fish, cabbage, green veg, fried yam and a sour plum :)

Noticed that most of the bigger tables are reserved most of the time. So better be kiasu than to be disappointed.
Price of steamboat starts from $20 for 2 pax.

The Bad Waffle - Waffle Depot

The bubble tea outlet at Punggol Plaza starting selling waffles lately. There are many flavours such as Cheese, Raisin, Chocolate, Candies, Peanut etc.
They look like those at Sweet Stone BUT taste nothing like them at all. It is neither crispy nor tasty. Swear never to buy it again.
