顺发潮州沙爹米粉 (ABC Market)

ABC Market has been famous for its hawker food.
The place has been renovated not too long along.
It is located somewhere behind the old IKEA.
This day, I decided to give the satay beehoon a try.
Satay beehoon is not just beehoon with satay gravy (for the knowledge of those who do not know). There are ingredients including kangkong, prawn, pork, taupok, taugeh, 'hum', cuttlefish and sometimes pig liver.
Since there is a queue all the time, I assume the satay beehoon must have some standard la... I was attracted by the word '潮州' and hence, curious to know just how different it is from other satay beehoon I ate before.

This stall is self-service.
Like my usual order, I will ask to omit the cuttlefish, 'hum' and taugeh. Never like taugeh at all. I requested for additional sauce and that's how it looks.

Overall, it was a little disappointing cos it was a little too blend and the gravy was a little too watery.

Rating :&&&

It is not easy to find a good satay beehoon stall. So far, my fav satay beehoon stall is found in AMK Central Hawker (Blk 724), corner unit, facing a second-hand book shop.

Amici Authentic Italian Restaurant

Amici has set lunches that starts from $8. Sounds good?
My colleagues and I checked out the Holland V outlet during lunch one day.

The restaurant was not crowded at all when we reached abt 10 mins before 1pm. It has an open kitchen and you can see the chef in action.

Because it is open, it is best that you sit further from that area, unless you want to be reminded of what you ate for the rest of your day.

The set lunches come with a soup, bread and coffee/tea. No dessert :(

The above is mussle chowder. It tasted good although I do not like to eat mussle.

This is my main dish - Baked Dory Fillet in Pouch. The outer aluminiun is the pouch that contains the fillet, vegetable and stock.

The portion was just good for me, although some of the my colleagues think that the portion is a little too small.

Total damage : $10.90 (before taxes)

Sushi Tei @ Holland V

Had lunch at Holland V Sushi Tei as I did not want to waste the vouchers that I have.
There is an open kitchen for the 'raw food' section. Look at this chef, he was operating on a big fish!

I really like deep-fried food. Anything deep fried is delicious. haha.
The soft shell crab was cripsy but a bit too oily.

And I also like curry. Yeah. It's sinful stuff. I am always reminded of the japanese curry which I did not manage to eat when I went to Osaka many years ago. It was a road side stall and the curry simply smell so good.

Although the curry ramen does not seem like a huge portion, it was rather filling. There was also quite a large serving of potato, carrot and onion.

Overall, the food selection was interesting and food quality was good.

I shall be back for more Sushi Tei...

Chocolate Fondue

F invited P, JL, D and me to her place for a Fruit Chocolate Fondue session. Yummy!
I was hoping to see the chocolate fountain but it turned out to be this cute little thingie (which looks like an aromatherapy burner) ....
First, we melted the cocoa block in a separate bowl over a bowl of hot water.

These fruits are ready to be fondued - banana, chiku, strawberry and Korean pear.

Hmm... we also had mashmallow. Forgot to take pic of it.

Next, we heat up the chocolate by placing a tealight below. Then dip the cut fruits into the chocolate.

It was GOOD!

天府 Paradise on Earth

Location : 200 Tanjong Katong Road
Went there for the 鸳鸯 steamboat yesterday. The restaurant supposedly opens at 6pm but they were nice enough to allow us to be their 1st customers for the evening at 5.30pm.

Choice of soup : Satay Soup and Scallop Soup

Still like the Satay Soup but it gets a bit jelat after a while.... and I realised that the soups are quite oily. You will only notice it after the fire is off and the soup starts to cool down. Then... you will notice something.

For the 2-person set meal, we got the following items :

1) Fish Cake

2) Fish Slices

3) Bee Hoon (not the usual one)

4) Chicken meat

5) 鲜虾水饺

6)A variety of meat balls (Pork, Sotong, Shrimp)

7) Wanton

8) Green Vege

9) 金针菇

10)FRESH prawns

I have to emphasise on the word FRESH cos some of them successfully proved to us that they are FRESH by moving their very many legs while on our plates!

Freakie!!

Food portion was a bit too much for 2 persons... very very full after that.

By the way, they have nice archar and chilli sauce.

Total damage : $40.

Fish & Co. @ Novena Velocity

Went to Fish & Co. @ Novena Velocity (actually it is Novena Square) for lunch.
We were the 1st few customers there.

Today's experience was quite satisfying - not because of the food. Firstly, one of the families there came with a baby who was an attention-seeker and hyperactive. Kept yelling to his/her mom for attention. Secondly, the music they played made me think that I was in California Fitness and the CD player kept breaking down and the CD kept skipping [just imagining hearing 'da da da da da da da ' in a very fast tempo].

Waited abt half and hour for the food. Thank goodness it was not disappointing. Yes, it is the Classic Fish & Chip. You can't go wrong with that. The batter is just nice - not too thick and the fry to just the right degree. And I always love the sauce... I think it is butter? Tastes great!

This is the other dish we ordered - Grilled Salmon with Cajun Rice. The salmon skin was very crispy and the rice has raisins in it. Nice.

Attention to Citibank Card holders, you get a free drink (Passion Fruit, Ice Tea, Coke or Sprite) for each main course ordered :) We only knew about it when we were making the payment.

Aji by Hanabi

Sigh.... had a not-so-cheap dinner with not-so-satisfying dinner. Went to Vivocity. There are really a lot of restaurants there, some are opened, some are not.
Had my dinner with R at Aji by Hanabi.

It is a very modern and zen-looking restaurant and plays soothing Japanese songs. You'd imagine it will be a satisfying dinner. We were directed to the sets right at a far end. Next to us was a glass wall, looking outside is Sentosa. Wow! Sounds nice?

This is a feature wall in the restaurant.

The menu and the food in there looks very delicious as well.

Even the condiments containers and chopsticks covers are so nice, zen and elegant.

Here comes the main course.

His main course - Grilled Salman in Black Pepper with pickled veg. 6 pieces.

Mine main course - Grilled Cod Fish. (Our expression was ' Huh, you mean only like that ah'?. Haha.) But it was quite delicious. Love the deep fried lotus roots.

Our shared dish - Deep fried chicken with spring onion. Nice presentation but nothing too spectacular.

I suspect the aircon was a little too cold for the restaurant cos our food turned cold real fast.

Total damage : $51.

Jos' Japanese Lunch

Was thinking - shd I go tapau or shd I cook? Since the weather looks like a killer, a packet of ramen (actually it is only instant noodle) is enough to make me happy. In the end, I whipped up my own little Japanese Lunch. keke.
Here's what you need....
1. Japanese brand Nissin ramen

2. Japanese Ready-to-Eat Curry

3. Miso Soup Paste

And then, here what you get :)

A Japanese Lunch complete with ramen, curry & miso soup.

Total preparation time : 3 mins for ramen, 2 mins for curry and 2 mins for soup.

Total damage : less than $6.

Leather Jacket Fillet @ Fosters

I have written on my other blog about my lunch at Fosters. Like I said, ambience and service were good. I would also say it is quite value-for-money. For $12.90+++, it came with bread, soup, main, dessert and tea. But the selection for set lunch was limited. There was a choice of fish, chicken or beef only.
Those who ordered Leather Jacket Fillet were quite disappointed.
The fish's jacket was probably too thin that the fish caught a cold and lost its taste bud (失去味觉).
It was too blend.

The bread and soup.

Love this butter.

Main dish (Leather jacket fillet) with fries and greens.

Rum & Raisin ice cream. Yummy!

We also shared this basket of chicken wings. This was good. The wings were hot and crispy when they were served. It came with Thai chilli sauce. This is the dish that makes it worth another visit to Fosters.
