Sunset Grill & Pub [Location Moved]

Located at the super ulu Seletar Airbase, not accessible by public transport.  I highly recommend that you get ready a GPS to help navigate your way within this huge ulu compound, in case you run into any restricted area in the airbase.

It took us almost an hour to travel from buona Vista to Seletar airbase and it was already pitched-dark by the time we reached Sunset Grill....no more sunset to view at all =(

I suppose these are old army barracks.  The carpark was already packed by the time we reached.  Despite the inaccessibility, the place is packed.

The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seatings.  There are more outdoor seatings and you get to enjoy the "scenery" and the rustic charm (read: with the company of mosquitoes and ants).

A simple menu with the restaurant's name, address and operating hours on the first page.  It surprises me a little place is packed on a weekday night.  So, it is always better to make reservation in advanced.

This huge serving of mushroom is almost enough to fill half than half of my tummy.  It is very thick, creamy and lotsa mushrooms bits!

A huge plate of nachos to be shared by 5 of us.  It comes with 3 types of dips - warm cheese, beef sauce and another one which is slightly spicy and sour.  The food portions are quite hugein general.  So, do moderate what you're ordering if there aren't too many persons in the group.

The buffalo wings came in 10 different degrees of spiciness.  Fellow foodies had warned that level 4 is almost the ultimate (spicy) level for some of them.  We ordered level 2 and 4 wings.

Well, if you like it hot and spicy, you can attempt to challenge yourself but be ready to get "burnt" lips after that.  Besides spiciness, the wings are in fact quite sour, which I suspected that it is due to the tabasco sauce used.

Note: The restaurant has moved out from Seletar and it's new location is 259 Jalan Kayu Singapore 799488.  Tel: 6482 0244.

San Shu Gong (三叔公) [Closed]

Lovers of Beh-Teh-Soh (马蹄酥) will be happy to know that the famous traditional pastry chain from Malacca, San Shu Gong (三叔公) has opened its first outlet in Singapore.  It is located at Changi Airport Terminal 3, Basement 2 (near Candy Empire).

Besides Beh-Teh-Soh, there is also tao-sar-bia (biscuits with salted green bean fillings), lao-po-bing (wife biscuit) and other pastries and Malacca local products.

Convenience comes with a price... the price is probably doubled, compared to the price you pay in Malacca.

Ghim Moh - Guan Kee Fried Kway Teow

Guan Kee Fried Kway Teow
Ghim Moh Market And Food Centre
Blk 20 Ghim Moh Road #01-12
Closed on Wednesdays and Fridays

The queue seems never ending but fried kway teow lovers do not mind the waiting 30mins to 40mins. The glass stall is plastered with raving reviews, that you can hardly see the elderly uncle manning the wok.

Some say "good things but wait".... but after my 2nd attempt, I guess this isn't my type of fried kway teow. I'd prefer the kway teow to be slightly burnt and with strongly fried kway teow aroma. It was slightly too watery for my liking.
The serving portion for $2.50 was considered small, at least to me.

Paradise Inn @ West Coast Plaza

Paradise Inn (乐天客栈)
B1-48 West Coast Plaza
Tel: 67779950
A casual dining restaurant under the Paradise Inn Group has an outlet at the West Coast Plaza. The menu is somewhat similar to local zi-char dishes such as hotplate tofu and seafood stew vermicelli (bee hoon). But there are also some not so common dishes such as steamed codfish in soy sauce. The restaurant is also famous for its double-boil soup.

The hotplate tofu dish is served with a big piece of silly smooth tofu that has been pan-fried. Loved the pan-fried tofu skin. The dish comes with generous servings of oriental mushroom cubes and preserved turnip cubes (caixin). Beneath the tofu is a thin layer of yummy egg.

Love this simple, sinful-less and simply delicious steamed codfish in soy sauce. This is a relatively big slab of fresh codfish.

Fried vermicelli is common but not stew vermicelli. Besides Seafood Stew Vermicelli, Paradise Inn also serves Pig Trotters Stew Vermicelli. Since I am not a fan of pig trotters, seafood was the preferred choice for me. Fish slices, squid and prawns were the main seafood ingrdients used in this well-stewed dish.

Overall, these 3 dishes were above average. Total damage was $40 include a pot of tea for 2 pax. OCBC credit card users will be entitled to a 10% discount for ala carte dishes.

isn't the tea pot interesting?  If you'd like your tea to taste light, tilt it at 45 degrees.  If you like it thick, tilt it to 90 degrees so that the tea leaves can immerse in the water. =)

The Pasta Shop

The Pasta Shop
Changi Airport T3 Departure/Check in Hall North
Mezzanine Level, #03-43/44, Singapore 819663
Tel : 6242 6378
Another Japanese food chain under Sakae Sushi.  As the name suggests, The Pasta Shop serves pasta cooked in Japanese style aka Wafu style.

What do you do when it is dinner time (6pm) but you had lunch at 1pm, toast bread at 3pm and tao sar bia at 4pm?  The food looks too tempting to resist... and so I ordered a main course + salad for sharing.

Salad and asparagus pasta looks interesting enough.  It came with some thin seaweed pieces sprinkled on the pasta.  At first, the pasta tasted rather ordinary... but somehow, it got more delicious as we started eating.  The salmon was fresh and serving portion was quite generous.

I am normally not a salad lover, but I would strongly recommend this Tofu salad.  It is so delicious...

Excluding drinks, total damage for the 2 dishes (incl taxes) was abt $28.

There is citibank credit card promotion where you can get 100% rebate (round down to nearest $10).
