Korean Fried Chicken - Nene Chicken at Star Vista [네네치킨]

Are you a fan of fried chicken?  Joining franchises like BBQ Chicken from Korea, a new kid has landed into the sunny island of Singapore.  That's really good news because Nene Chicken adopts a fast food concept which means it is more affordable.

My friend was a little shy to pronounce "Nene" and particularly the dish Nene Pop since it sounded like the local way of saying boobs.  But really, there is nothing naughty about it since this is a Korean chain. Nene (네네)  means Yes Yes in Korean ;)

Though the fast food restaurant is a little cram, I prefered to eat the chicken when it is freshly served.  The waiting time was slightly long, maybe 10 mins, since the chicken is only fried upon ordered.  I ordered the Bulgogi Fried Chicken, Nenebap and Nenepop.  My favourite amongst these 3 is the Bulgogi flavoured fried chicken.  The chicken is tender, juicy and marinated just right.  Nenebap is a DIY mixed rice where you mix the salad vege, chicken with rice.  Nenepop is a little fun.   The popcorn-size fried chicken is placed in a small bowl on top of the soft drink.  This is convenient as a quick take away meal.

To experience the real Korean style of eating fried chicken, a small thrash bin is placed on each table for you to throw away the chicken bones.  It would have been perfect if you could have the fried chicken with beer.  The Koreans call it Chi-maek (치맥) which means chicken and beer.  This culture is so strong that there is an annual festival in the country.

Nene Chicken currently has delivery service but limited to selected areas in the West.  So in the meantime, since there is only 1 store, you have got to head down to Star Vista is you want to get your hands on the Nene ;p

Mad Jack (Paradiz Centre)

1 Selegie Road
Paradiz Centre #01 – 04
Tel: 6338 9771 / 6257 5951
11.30am – 12 midnight daily

A cafe offering rather affordable western food, attracting mostly teenagers and young adults. The menu has a wide range of selection from fish & chips, steak, burger, pasta, pizza, asian food, finger food, cakes, desserts etc.

Placing order is simple and hassle free, simply write down the item number on the order forms placed on each table, and make payment at the counter. However, the food did take quite a while to be served - at least 20 mins?

Here's what I had - Grilled Fish in Honey Lemon Sauce served with mashed potato and apple & peach salad. The fish was quite fresh and portion size is reasonable for the price of $8.90. My only complain is that the fish was a little too thinly slice that the texture became a little dry & tough. The apple & peach salad is a refreshing combination with the grilled fish.

My drink - Complexion Enhancer ($4)- from the range of Doctor Juices made from fresh fruits with no sugar added. The drink contains guava, orange and cucumber. Well, how did it taste? Hmm... what would you expect from such a combination?? It has a "freshy" taste in its natural sweetness, prob from the orange.

With such a great selection, I would be interested to be back to try different food from the menu.

Popeyes Chicken & Biscuit @ T3

Popeyes has opened a new outlet and yes, it is in the airport again which I can't understand why they can only be found at the 3 terminals and not anywhere else in Singapore. In T3, it is located just next to the Kopitiam foodcourt at Basement 2.

For a 4-piece set meal ($13.95), it comes with 4 pieces of chicken, 2 drinks, 3 side dishes and 2 biscuits (and jam). Side dish selection include fries, mash potato, coleslaw or redbean rice. Not all may like the red-bean rice cos the taste is a little unusual. You'd either love it or hate it.

Pasta @ Pepper Lunch

Pepper Lunch is sizzling with new item on their menu. This time round it is pasta. The 2 new pasta dishes are salmon cream pasta and Japanese curry chicken pasta.
I had wanted to try the curry pasta, unfortunately, it was sold out by dinner time. So I ordered the salmon cream pasta.

It is quite refreshing to see this new idea of having pasta on a sizzling hotplate with the cream sauce bubbling when the food arrived. However, I found the salmon a little too salty and the cream a little under-flavoured.
The signature pepper rice was better. Another salmon dish that we've ordered :)

It tasted good with the garlic sauce.
