Ice Edge II Cafe at Upper Thomson Road [Closed]

Craving for some ice-cream in the hot Singapore weather?  Ice Edge Café II does serve some interesting flavours such as Salted Egg... yes, that was something new to me.  Perhaps it appeals more to those with acquired taste.  For me, I would prefer to keep to the more traditional flavours such as Mao Shan Wang Durian or Rum and Raisin.

Besides waffles, ice cream and cakes, the café also serve western food such as the Fish and Chips you see in the picture below.  The portion looks a little small because I had order the kid's size portion, saving my tummy for the ice cream.

While the food quality has nothing to be complained about, I can't say the same for the waiting time.  The café seems to be short-handed, hence be prepared to wait.... my friends and I waited for almost an hour for the food.  Yah... so you might want to check the waiting time before placing your order.  There are lots of other food options if time is not on your side.  =)

Address: 203 Upper Thomson Road,  Singapore 574344
Telephone No : 6255 4655

Updated on 16 Sep 2013: The café is closed due to expansion of Kovan branch and shortage of manpower.

Buttermilk Waffle @ Coffee Club

Good Morning! breakfast set from Coffee Club @ Tiong Bahru Plaza.   Took me a while to decide from the menu with about 10 choices.  Finally, I decided to try the Buttermilk Waffle. The breakfast set came with a complimentary coffee or tea.

A set of 3 waffles was served about 10mins later.  I was initially a little disappointed that the waffles were not piping hot when served.  I like hot waffles because it gives the impression that it was freshly made... =P

The waffles was sprinkled lightly with icing sugar and doused with maple syrup.  It came with a small pot of blueberry jam and unsalted SCS butter (not in photo).  The waffles was soft but a little dry.  I always like to taste food in its original taste before adding other stuff.  The plain waffles was.... really plain.  But as soon as I spread the SCS butter on it, the waffle became much delicious compared to when it was just a plain piece of waffle!!  It was also great when i dipped it lightly into the jam.

At $7.90 (before taxes), the breakfast set was "expensive" compared to other breakfast I could get from Tiong Bahru Plaza - Ya Kun or Mac or Toast Box.  However, because of its "atas-ness", the cafe was one of the quieter place to munch away your breakfast, and relax yourself with some light jazz music... on a Sunday morning.

The Bad Waffle - Waffle Depot

The bubble tea outlet at Punggol Plaza starting selling waffles lately. There are many flavours such as Cheese, Raisin, Chocolate, Candies, Peanut etc.
They look like those at Sweet Stone BUT taste nothing like them at all. It is neither crispy nor tasty. Swear never to buy it again.

The Good Waffle - The Sweet Stone Parad'Ice [Closed]

The Sweet Stone Parad'Ice, a high class dessert hidden in a HDB estate hawker centre (Goldern Mile Food Centre @ Beach Road aka Army Market). Like the header of its website reads, it is an Ang Moh dessert. First, I supposed this is a Belgian specialty and secondly, it is co-owned by a Belgian.

It is located at Level 1 and it will hardly to miss the stall due to its European facet.

(Can you see the Ang Moh boss standing behind the class showcase?)

The delicious part of these waffles is that they are really crispy, and goes well with gelato and thick chocolate dip. However, I find the price a little steep.
For a single set of waffle + choco dip, it costs $2.50.
For a set of 8 waffles + 4 sets of gelato and a pot of choco dip, it costs abt $25....好像很好赚喔! But again, it is 一分钱一分货。久久吃一次,it is ok :)

The 5 of us shared the set with 8 waffles and had green tea, coffee, chocolate and banana flavoured gelato. For a non-coffee fan, I actually quite like the coffee flavoured gelato.
The business-minded boss even had a reward system of accumulating points in exchange of free waffles. I shall be back to claim the freebies :)
